End of the 15% Tariff Opens New Opportunities for Ecuador
The United States has announced a modification to its reciprocal tariff scheme, representing a significant boost for Ecuador’s export sector. As of November 13, 2025, a total of 105 Ecuadorian products are now exempt from the 15% surcharge, according to the Ministry of Production, Foreign Trade and Investments (MPCEI). This decision primarily targets agricultural and natural goods that are not widely produced in the U.S. market, strengthening Ecuador’s competitiveness in a key destination.
The products benefiting from this measure include coffee, cocoa, bananas, plantains, palm hearts, pineapples, mangoes, dragon fruit (pitahaya), fruit juices, spices, tomatoes, and oranges, along with other high-value tropical fruits. Removing the surcharge will reduce export costs and improve profit margins, creating more favorable conditions to expand the presence of fresh and processed Ecuadorian goods in the United States.
The MPCEI emphasized that Ecuador continues broader trade negotiations with the United States, making this step a strategic advancement in bilateral relations. For small and medium-sized producers, the tariff reduction could become an opportunity to reach new buyers, stabilize prices, and strengthen their growth within the national production chain.
