Ecuador Strengthens Banana Exports to Uzbekistan
Ecuador continues to consolidate its position as the leading supplier of bananas to Uzbekistan, a market showing sustained growth in the demand for tropical fruits. During the first half of 2025, the Central Asian country imported 95,300 tons of bananas, of which 94,000 tons, equivalent to 98.6%, originated from Ecuador. These figures confirm Ecuador’s dominant position in this market and reflect the confidence of Uzbek importers in the quality, consistency, and competitiveness of Ecuadorian bananas.
In addition to its leadership in bananas, Ecuador also plays an active role in the mandarin market in Uzbekistan. While countries such as Pakistan and Kazakhstan account for a large share of citrus imports, Ecuador’s presence serves a strategic role by contributing to supplier diversification and supply stability. This participation allows buyers to access fruit from different origins and strengthens trade relations with non-traditional markets.
The increase in banana and mandarin imports is largely driven by changes in consumption habits among the Uzbek population, along with a growing interest in tropical and citrus fruits. Industry specialists note that these trends are being supported by greater market openness, improvements in logistics, and a rising preference for fresh, high-quality products.
Projections indicate that demand for Ecuadorian fruits in Uzbekistan will continue to grow in the coming years. This scenario not only consolidates Ecuador as a key player in the tropical fruit trade in Central Asia, but also opens new opportunities to expand the export offering, diversify products, and strengthen the country’s presence in emerging markets across the region.
