40,000 Boxes Weekly: The Rise of Ecuadorian Dragon Frui

The peak season for Ecuadorian dragon fruit has officially begun, with an estimated availability of 40,000 boxes per week. Over the next two months, promotional volumes will be widely available for the retail sector, supported by strong production capacity, efficient logistics, and solid operational infrastructure that ensure a consistent supply throughout the holiday season and beyond.

Earlier this year, significant investments were made in state-of-the-art packing facilities in Ecuador dedicated exclusively to dragon fruit. These facilities, certified under GlobalG.A.P. and Primus, combine automated processing with manual packing, ensuring cold chain integrity and optimal fruit quality upon arrival in North American markets.

Once considered a niche exotic fruit, dragon fruit has become a favorite among consumers. Industry studies project that the U.S. dragon fruit market will reach USD 160 million by 2034, reflecting steady and sustained growth. In response, the sector is focusing not only on supplying high-quality, fresh fruit, but also on providing retail and digital marketing support to help stimulate consumer demand and strengthen category performance.

Ecuador produces **four varieties of dragon fruit—white, red, yellow, and gold—**all rich in antioxidants and immune-boosting properties, qualities especially appreciated during the winter months. The peak season is expected to continue through February, with more limited volumes available during the rest of the year. Beyond dragon fruit, Ecuador also supplies a wide range of tropical produce year-round, including starfruit, Thai guava, mamey, tropical avocados, and malangas, reinforcing its position as a key origin for tropical fruits in global markets.
