Ecuador Adjusts Banana Prices: A Boost for Producers and National Competitiveness

A new price that sets a precedent for the banana sector

Ecuador has set the official price of a box of bananas for 2026 at USD 7.75, an increase of USD 0.50 compared to the previous year. This decision, reached between producers and exporters, comes at a crucial moment after a year marked by challenges such as plant diseases and the impacts of climate change. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the new price ensures a fairer return for farmers and aims to strengthen the stability of a sector that remains one of the pillars of Ecuador’s agricultural exports.

Relief for thousands of producers across the country

The price increase is especially good news for small and medium-sized producers, who have seen their production costs rise due to climatic and phytosanitary factors. With a higher price agreed upon by all parties, more growers are expected to cover their operating expenses and maintain profitability. Additionally, this adjustment sends a strong message of institutional support to an industry that employs thousands of families and plays a key role in the country’s rural economy.

A positive impact on international competitiveness

Despite the challenges faced in 2025, Ecuador managed to export more than 314 million boxes between January and October, representing a 3.86% growth compared to the previous year. With the new price, the country aims to maintain its global positioning, especially in key markets such as the European Union and Russia. While the increase may require adjustments for exporters, the objective remains clear: to uphold quality, protect producers, and strengthen the competitiveness of one of Ecuador’s flagship export products.
